BBS Counseling
Who We AreAt BBS we believe in the power of counseling as a vital tool to influence students positively, thus building healthy generations and communities! Our counseling team at BBS strives to address the developmental needs of students through a comprehensive school counseling program in three critical areas: academic, personal/social, and career. Our aim is to help students resolve learning difficulties, emotional, social or behavioral problems, and help them develop a clear career focus or sense of direction. This is because we strongly believe that effective counseling programs are important to the school climate and a crucial element in improving the student’s academic, professional, social, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing.
Letter from
the Head of Counseling & Career Guidance
The philosophy of counseling at the Beirut Baptist School is based on helping every child get a good education that includes not only learning to read, write and do math but learning good social skills from getting along with others to making good decisions, controlling anger… Counselors at BBS are also there to help students deal with particular difficulties such as illness, death, or divorce etc.
It is a continuous (grades 1-12) process within the school. We view counseling as a team effort which consists of counselors, administrators, teachers, support staff, parents and students.
The three counselors advocate for our students in a variety of personal, social and educational roles. Our responsibility to prepare learners to live and work in a changing society is met in individual, small group and large group settings.
Every effort is made by the department to meet the needs of each student and be accessible to them at all times. Parents and guardians are also welcome to meet with the counselor via appointment to discuss any concerns they may have.
I look forward to a great successful year. If at any time you have a question, please do not hesitate to contact me and we’ll be glad to help.
Sincerely,
Celia Khater

Classroom Guidance
In class, upper elementary students have one hour of counseling per week. Awareness sessions are held at irregular intervals through the year. Topics such as: bullying, cyber bullying, internet addiction, social skills, friendship, fear, worry are covered and explained to the students.
These sessions are now held via the Microsoft Teams platform due to the Coronavirus pandemic and the lockdown.
Individual Counseling
Individual counseling takes place both in person on school premises (in case students are on campus) as well as online. Teletherapy sessions are conducted using the platform Microsoft Teams.
Small Group Counseling
In small group counseling sessions topics of common interest are discussed among students with the counselor. Students share their problems with one another and with the counselor, who in turn provides guidance and direction.
Awareness Sessions for Parents
- BBS counselors always provide awareness sessions for parents either in person (through the counselor herself) or by hosting professional speakers who tackle important topics such as: parenting in hard times, internet use, how to discipline kids in a better way, sexual education, mental health and its effects, etc…
- Counselors at BBS also provide individual consultation sessions to parents and provide them with the guidance and support needed.
- Another way the counseling department communicates with parents is through the awareness posters that are regulary posted on social media, which include tips meant to help parents cope with any situation that arises.
Awareness Campaigns & Activities for Students
Activities and awareness campaigns are also an important part of the counselor’s role. These include days like: Friendship Day, Harmony Day, Career Day, Cyberbullying Campaign. These were all celebrated on BBS campus.
