Introduction
Beirut Baptist School (BBS) is a distinguished Baptist private institution located in Beirut. Founded in 1956 by the Baptist Near East Mission, the school has grown into one of Lebanon’s leading educational establishments. Open to students of all religious and cultural backgrounds, BBS promotes a spirit of inclusivity, academic excellence, and holistic development. Today, the school operates under the leadership of Mrs. Alice Azar Wazir and continues to uphold a legacy of quality education and community impact.

Over the decades, Beirut Baptist School has evolved significantly from its modest beginnings into a well-established academic institution. The campus consists of three main buildings: the Old Hall (Elementary School), the James Ragland Secondary School (Bloc A & Bloc B), and the Pre-school Building, in addition to the Mousaitbeh Baptist Church.
The school currently serves more than 1,460 students (as of 2026), offering a comprehensive educational experience. BBS is also a candidate for New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) accreditation, reflecting its commitment to international standards of excellence.
Leadership throughout the years has played a vital role in shaping the school’s identity. From its founding by Dr. Finlay Graham and his wife Julia, to the contributions of principals such as Dr. James Ragland, Mr. Elias Bitar, Mr. Paul Oueis, Mr. Tony Haddad, and Mrs. Alice Wazir, BBS has consistently progressed while maintaining its core values.
THIMAR – LSESD and Educational Vision
The ownership of Beirut Baptist School has been transferred to the Lebanese Society for Educational and Social Development (LSESD), a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing education and social development in Lebanon. Through THIMAR –LSESD, BBS works to empower educators and communities by fostering innovation, sustainability, and continuous improvement in education.
This partnership strengthens BBS’s mission by aligning it with a broader national vision focused on educational growth, leadership development, and social responsibility. It ensures that the school remains forward-thinking while deeply rooted in its values.
